A Spectrum of Hyperfixations
We all have things we are obsessed with, and I have taken to the mic to share about mine! From mental health matters to fandom, the spectrum of hyperfixations can be random and unrelated because you never know what may grab your attention and refuse to let go.
Being autistic, a hyperfixation for me can last for months or just a few days. But it's not just about me. I'll be having guests on periodically to "geek out" over what their hyperfixation is so we can celebrate and embrace the things we are passionate about in the absence of judgement. You just may learn something new along the way too!
A Spectrum of Hyperfixations
The Musical Tones of Jeremy Jordan
What happens when casual TV watching turns into hyperfixating over a Broadway actor? Starting with his adorable performance as Lucifer in Hazbin Hotel, his portrayal led me down a rabbit hole to exploring his other works like Smash and Bonnie and Clyde - and I don't even like musicals!
Also, catch a glimpse into my creative struggles with perfecting podcast intros and outros. So, tune in, embrace the journey, and remember to keep on hyperfixating!

Hello and welcome to another episode of A Spectrum of Hyperfixations. I am your host, miss T the T today stands for Taken, because I'm going to be talking about one of my more recent hyperfixations and that is Jeremy Jordan Jordan. Broadway actor, jeremy Jordan, I am taken with him. I am taken by his voice, his looks, all the good things. I guess s would be probably better because it'd be smitten, but either way, we're gonna run with the tease, so let's talk. How did I get into him?
Speaker 1:So you may have heard of this show called has been hotel and, if you haven't, fair enough because I feel like it's kind of niche enough still that a lot of people don't know, even though you probably couldn't tell based on the fan base. They are pretty rabid, but it is an adult animated show that came out on Amazon earlier this year. The pilot was actually posted to YouTube back in 2019. I want to say so. It's taken some time to to get here and, um, I wasn't gonna give it a try because, based on some things, I heard about it, this and that, whatever but I ended up giving it a try, I think shortly after the first four or five episodes were posted. Yeah, five episodes, because they dropped them in a small little batch. So that episode five is where mr jeremy jordan comes in as lucifer and he is so charming, so adorable, looking up, who voices him, who brought him to life, you know sort of thing.
Speaker 1:And then I was looking at all this stuff on Jeremy Jordan, finding out he's a Broadway actor. He was in this show that my sister really loved called Smash, from back in the day. So I even went and just watched like the first one or two episodes of season two of Smash, because that's where he comes in. I didn't care about anything else about the show, I just fast forwarded to his moments on the screen. And that led me to finding out that Bonnie and Clyde a live stage version of it was filmed and recorded in the UK back a couple years ago, I think it was, and it was just now coming out for people to stream. Now, all the things you know, because your algorithm gets all messed up once you start Googling people and things. And so then Google was showing me all these like clips from the Great Gatsby, because he's been on there. He's currently starring there Gosh, what else? It's just it was a rabbit hole and I haven't really gone down a rabbit hole that much since, well, no, yes, okay. So I was gonna say I haven't gone down that rabbit hole very much. I do with voice actors but I don't really get into, you know, like watching other shows that they do in time.
Speaker 1:Back in 2003, when I was in high school and I told myself I didn't want to uh, fall for another celebrity as hard as I did for Johnny Depp, because that's just become a disappointment. Let's be honest, after all that Amber Heard trail and everything coming out, I mean he just kind of lost a shine for me. Um, so I didn't want to become really hyper fixated on another real life person, because fictional characters can't really disappoint you. They're not going to, you know, do horrible things. At least you know, whatever they haven't done in the show. It's just you know, you already know, so I didn't want it. But you know you can't really pick your hyperfixations. They just kind of latch onto you and that's what happened.
Speaker 1:So I ended up buying a ticket to stream Bonnie and Clyde, even though I'm not really a fan of musicals, but go figure, I like Hasbun Hotel, which is pretty much a musical, but I ended up really enjoying it. It was like a good time, and I mean Bonnie and Clyde are not good people, so it doesn't really represent them accurately, at least as far as what I can remember, when I read the Public Enemy book which of course is after I watched the movie of Public Enemy when I was still back into Johnny Depp, which John Dillinger became a whole obsession based off out of that, anyways, so that was a really fun time. Um again went through watch smash, which I want to get back to you because, uh, yeah, I want to see more of him. My sister just thinks that funny and she wanted me to give the whole show a chance. But I realized pretty quickly that smash is a show that I will not like and it reminds me so much of kids from high school who were very much that kind of like look at me, I'm so good, I'm so popular, I'm so talented, you know all these things and I'm like barf, so I won't be watching it, even though it's got such a solid cast. I was texting her live, you know, as I'm watching it, and I was also, you know, pretty tipsy on some wine. But like it has Angelica Houston, it has Jack Davenport from also the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, norrington, if you remember him, um, I think I had somebody else that I was very surprised was in it and now I can't remember. But yeah, so Jeremy Jordan has become one of my most recent obsessions.
Speaker 1:And just last night so I'm recording this on September 5th, just last night, I was all in my feels and I took a sleep gummy to try and help wind me down, because I've also been having like an 80 year olds back lately, so that I started feeling kicking in. You know, getting that high feeling. Rather than putting me to sleep, it was keeping me awake, as it sometimes does. So, you know, my heart's kind of racing a little bit and I'm in my feels and I recognize that when I get into kind of these low, almost kind of like manic episodes emotionally, I go on wild purchasing sprees and I so last night, uh, I was just scrolling YouTube before I go to bed to see if there's any like last minute videos I want to watch. And I saw on Vivzy Pops YouTube, um, because you know how they can post like, uh, texts and links and things if you're on the app. I don't think you can see it when you're just on YouTube, like on your TV.
Speaker 1:But it was a post saying like, hey, this new artwork has hit on Streamlily and for all you radio apple shippers out there and it will be signed by Amir Talai I probably butchered his name, I'm so sorry and Jeremy Jordan, and I knew I had to have it because I'm just going through watching Bonnie and Clyde for the third time. I put it on at work last Friday because we were pretty slow and I was just pulling taxes and I'm like I could just put this on for the last couple hours and so I'm riding high still from that and I love the radio Apple pairing. That is like my OTP for this fandom and uh, yeah, yeah. So I bought it. It was quite a pretty penny, I'm not gonna lie, but it's gonna be totally worth it because it's really really solid, nice artwork. It is like I'm a fan of alistair, but no offense, like lucifer is where it's at and because I took that to the next level with, you know, hyper fixating on this voice actor a little bit, here we are to where you're dropping money that you probably shouldn't be at night during bedtime, when you're high and in your feels. When you're high and in your feels, so, pro tip, lock up your phone or your credit cards when you get to be in that state of mind, anyway. So I will probably talk more about him, definitely more on Hasbin Hotel, but I just thought that was a fun little story and I would be curious if you have seen any of his work, if you know of him, if you're a fan of his.
Speaker 1:My sister told me she's watched the Newsies. She watched the Newsies at school when she was a para. The kids were watching it and she said she liked it. She said he was really good. Again, I'm not a fan of musicals and how am I going after a Broadway actor? So weird conundrum.
Speaker 1:Uh, yeah, so jeremy jordan, that's another hyper fixation of mine that came out of nowhere and, uh, I cannot wait to get this autograph. I think they will be signing them live on stream. I don't know how this works. I've never bought anything from Streamlily in this sort of way and now that the post on YouTube is actually gone, because I had texted it to a couple friends to show them what I had done and they're like I can't access this link, so I'm assuming they sold out, but I'm going to. You could put how you wanted them to sign it and anything else. And I just told them to put like sign whatever comes to mind and then you can sign it to my name and my pin name. And maybe they've read some fics of mine. Doubt it, I mean, those fics are gone now. I deleted them. That's a whole another podcast for hyperfixation, your uh, negative thoughts and feelings, because hyper fixating isn't always a feel-good thing, unfortunately. So that is this week's topic, this little brief update into my world of uh with jeremy jordan. So I hope you have a wonderful day whenever you're listening to this. Do check out Bonnie and Clyde the Musical if you are a fan of musicals.
Speaker 1:I've also kind of enjoyed what I've seen, the little clips I've seen of the Great Gatsby, which that's a whole other topic, because my brother-in-law loves the Great Gatsby, he loves that book, and I had some fighting words for him because I said nothing happens in this book. This book was so boring I hated every minute reading of it in my I think it was junior year in high school. This book was so freaking boring and I told him I watched the what's his name, like sam water waterston, whoever was in the the law and order series, and he was playing nick, I think the character's name was, and I'm like this is, this is a mind-numbingly boring and uh. So then we were googling, like what I googled what happens in the great gatsby while he was here, and google brought up some things about there being fried chicken and just like a chicken metaphor or something in the great gatsby, and so we had a good laugh about that, because he did not remember anything about a chicken. And so now he's like I'm gonna go read the book and I will let you know, uh, what I learned about the fried chicken.
Speaker 1:I would love that the musical came out on streaming somehow, just to be able to take a look at it. I'd probably enjoy it better than the book, even though I'm really not a fan of musicals either. But if Jeremy Jordan's Jay Yatsby, then I'm there. It's unfortunate that New York is so far from Kansas, and New York is one of those places I would feel so overwhelmed in, I believe, and just overstimulated, that I don't know if I could ever go to a Broadway show, to be honest.
Speaker 1:So there you have it Again me rambling hyperfixations. That's what it is A lot of rambling and a lot of info dumping and just getting caught in tams and all the things. So I really need to find a sign-up for this. This is like the fourth ever episode I'm recording. I really need to pin down an intro, an outro, because I just feel so awkward when trying to end these things. I don't know how to end them. So you're seeing live me kind of having a little, uh, mini breakdown panic over this. So I'm just gonna say, uh, keep on hyper fixating gosh, what a hard word that is. And uh, we will catch you next time.
